Pumpernickel's Pumpkin

From the moment I brought it home she didn't know what to make of it.

The first few weeks we had it, it sat on the table, Tessie keeping a suspicious eye on it. Then came pumpkin-carving night.

She inspected it for a while while I got the carving tools ready. The, suddenly, a lightbulb went on and she went running into the bedroom....

...returning with her stuffed pumpkin. My dog is a genius.

Tessie was amazed by the whole thing. She tried to eat the pumpkin seeds multiple times (she went crazy for them once they were roasted) but generally just watched and played with her pumpkin. I wish I had pictures of it, but she would get so close to me she would actually stand on her hind legs, her front paws on my back, watching!

The finished product! My paw print pumpkin :)

"What are you?"

"Hello?"

"Whatever."

Mary Kay Party

Over the winter I held a Mary Kay party for my girlfriends with Mary Kay extraordinaire, Velinda Barrier.

There were drinks, snacks, makeovers, tutorials, and crowns!

Tessie was not impressed.

Meshanticut Park

Fulfilling our role as leaf-peeking New Englanders, we took Tessums walking in Meshanticut Park in Cranston yesterday. Not much to tell but the pictures are pretty!

Life's A Beach

A great place for puppy walking in the South Shore is Quincy's Wollaston Beach.

There's tons of smells with the beachfront restaurants, plenty of people passing, and lots and lots of other dogs to check out. In the summer heat, there are plenty of shaded benches to stop for a drink of water.

But Tessie's very favorite thing is the wall running along the edge of the sand! She walks along the entire length of it, jumping down when there is a break in it, and back up when it picks up again.

Some dogs love the sand, but Tessie isn't crazy about it. She has only seemed to really enjoy it once. One day, after sitting on the wall watching a volleyball game, she jumped down and started digging. Digging, digging, digging into a hole over a foot deep. Suddenly she stopped and squatted in it. Very dignified, she jumped out and trotted away.

And even though it gets dark out earlier, there's no better time to walk than the fall. (less people around too!) The view of the city is gorgeous at night, especially when watching the lights from the planes landing in Logan.

Tessie doesn't seem to appreciate it as much.

Never Let Go

Tessie loves to walk. Absolutely loves it, unlike my mom's dog, who's adventures are limited to the backyard. In fact, the one time she ran away, we found her on the across-the-street neighbor's steps, chewing on a goard.

But Tessie....that's a horse of a different color. And one of her favorite walks is along Comm Ave in the Back Bay.

Tuesday night Lady Moonrose (aka my mom) had a reading right on Comm Ave, and I (being her manager) dropped her off and planned on walking Tessie for the time she was doing the reading.

Tessie, however, was not so happy about the idea of leaving her Grandma behind.

She refused to walk. REFUSED. I made it a whole block in 15 minutes, a distance that is usually covered in one. Not even taking pictures and walking in circles around monuments would distract her (which is weird, because those almost always work on me).

Finally I gave up, allowing her to walk back in the direction from which we came. Tessie leading the way, the four paws flying, I planned to walk her PAST the apartment we came from, up to the Public Garden and back.

As usual, I underestimated her.

Tessie knew the exact spot we had turned, the exact apartment to head towards, and was crying to see her grandma the second before I even hit the buzzer.

I cannot win with this dog.
